Waitakere Boxing Club Stages Pro-am Fundraising Tournament

The Waitakere Boxing Club staged a pro-am fundraising tournament at he ABA Stadium on Saturday September 11.

Vanuatu's Karli Jacobus (78.3kg) kept his unbeaten record intact when he outpointed come backing Moroni Schwalger (81.4kg) over six hard rounds. The first two rounds were even but in the third Moroni pulled back too casually from a left hand lead and Karli cracked a big right hand that stunned the Samoan born fighter. But as Karli rushed in Schwalger landed a desperation left uppercut-right hand combination that hurt Jacobus.

In the fourth Karli seemed to have worked out a counter to Moroni's left uppercut and caught him with some solid right-handers.

Schwalger stood his ground and remained dangerous with right hands over the top, and put everything into the last round but by then Jacobus was on his way to a clear points win.

In a lack lustre semi-pro bout, former gym mates Lee Perese 86.7kg (aka Richardson Perese) and Paulo Tui 88kg went three rounds with Tui winning on points.

Amateurs made up the supports before a capacity house.
