Singapore Khong Chang Full Contact Championships — WAIRORA – Sunday 15th August 2004

Sensei Duayne Davies personally selected a team from the Black Belt Club Champions who represent DKNZ at the Inaugural Singapore Khong Chang Full Contact Champions, on Sunday 15th August 2004 held in Wairoa, NZ.

Team Selection was based on the below criteria:

Team Player
Excellent Attitude & Commitment towards training
Training Attendance
Behaviour at home
Attitude & efforts at School
Supporting all Fundraising Events

This was an excellent opportunity for our new representatives to experience Full Contact Karate and competing against the likes of Sifu Maurice Paul's fighters. They are quickly gaining a reputation for not only being very brutal on the mat but successful as well.

This was the first time Wutaam Martial Arts Academy has held an open tournament for all Martial Arts styles. There were at least 200 competitors who came from as far as Australia and from all corners of New Zealand. The Wairoa community definitely came out in force to support the Wutaam Martial Arts Academy. Well over 500 spectators made the effort to watch their loved ones front up against some of the best Martial Artists in the country.

The best visual point for me was when we arrived outside Wairoa's towns limits we were greeted with the slogan:

"WAIROA"
The way New Zealand used to be!

And every word of that is true. It's like going back in time.

With our team of 10 strong, Waikato Kyokushin/DKNZ rose to the challenge by doing what we know best and that is to show everyone the true meaning of delivering full force thigh kicks or Gedan Mawashi, and may I say in all humility that all our fighters did us proud as the below results show.
