Sifu Ted Wong Article visit the MAA-I Thailand

During the end of last year, I had the great opportunity to train with Sifu Ted Wong, Sijo Bruce Lee’s last student, and the world’s most recognised martial artist and expert in Jeet Kune Do (the Way of the Intercepting Fist), both in Hong Kong in October, and Thailand in December.

While training in Hong Kong, Sifu Wong demonstrated fleet of foot and ease of movements equal to that of a man in his thirties, yet he was just at that time celebrating his 70th birthday, a celebration that I had the great honour to attend.

When Sifu Wong visited Thailand, I again attended his seminar and came out of it more improved than I could have imagined or had hoped for. He again demonstrated his abilities not only in ease of movements, but in speed and timing as well.

From these two opportunities of training directly with Sifu Wong equal to approximately thirty-two hours, I came away with not only a great respect for a man who took fifteen years of additional research after Sijo Lee’s passing to finally decide to share his knowledge, but a much better understanding of what Jeet Kune Do really is, and it’s evolution between the three very distinct schools developed by Sijo Lee.

I have also been very, very fortunate to have personally spent time with Sifu Wong to discuss on several occasions, the development of my Not-For-Profit Charity Organisation, the Jeet Kune Do Health and Humanitarian Organisation Ltd., founded in the memory and honour of both Sijo Lee and his son Brandon Lee, in order to benefit those poor and less fortunate through raising funds, donations, awareness and qualified volunteers to support Healthcare Centres, Clinics, Hospitals and Schools in developing countries, such as: Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Burma, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

From these discussions, Sifu Wong honoured me greatly by saying: “I was a good man, with a good heart”, and that he would personally speak with Shannon (Lee Kessler) about my project. And, when one of his instructors enquired about me, Sifu Wong simply replied: “Dr. Mac has his nonprofit JKD group that works with the hospital for the poor….” I feel most greatly honoured to have had the opportunity to have personally spent time with Sifu Ted Wong, and will always cherish the invaluable lessons and information he most freely gave. It is my sincere hope that I will again have additional chances to train and be with him for future years to come.

In conclusion (but certainly not the end), I firmly believe that through the great efforts of Sifu Ted Wong, the present two generations of Jeet Kune Do Practitioners will benefit greatly, and also be challenged to carry-on his, Sifu Ted Wong’s teachings, as he was taught by Sijo Bruce Lee. And, those future generations of Jeet Kune Do Practitioners to come, will not only feel the effects of Sifu Wong’s teachings, but will too be inclined to hold fast to its purity.
