Primetime Builds Female Fight League

Primetime are in the process of developing a female fight league, with the hope it will begin in April 2007.

NZ is a great place to build a league for women as there is already a base of female fighters. For the last two years I have been running events and a good number of fighters have developed to the point where they are ready for a new challenge.

There is an abundance of skilled stand up fighters plus competitive grapplers here and increasingly I have been asked for the opportunity to combine those skills into MMA.

To investigate the options I went to Japan and met with the owner of “Smack Girl”. He is looking forward to the opportunity to send his fighters here to compete. Along with the Japanese I have been approached by several high quality American fighters and numerous Australian women who would all like to fight also.

If we bring all these fighters together we will have the beginning of an exciting opportunity to develop a female fight league.

I also recently met with an American agent who is keen to approach the TV networks about airing and financially contributing to this venture.

So while nothing is confirmed it is looking very positive and we think with the quality of the company representing us that we have a good shot.

Before this possibility came to light we had intend to go forward with an NZ and Australian based league. We had the backing of Sky 1 and sponsorship from Fairtex. So this was very much the direction we were heading we have just possibly taken a bigger step than we would have this year.

The NZ and Australian fighters will benefit most from this move as the opportunities to compete will be on your back doorstep. It will also be a great advantage that the girls will see the events and know exactly what they have to step up to. Some fighters are ready for the move right now and for them I am happy to offer the opportunity.

The styles of fighting fought in the Primetime ring include Kickboxing, Kyukoshin, CSF (a form of grappling) and starting this year MMA. Some categories already have more fighters than we can take while others still have slots available. If you are a woman who fights and would like to be involved drop me a line. There are opportunities for both the elite and the beginners but please don’t apply for a style of fighting you are not trained in e.g. don’t try to kick box if you are a grappler.

If I or my team hasn’t seen you fight we will require footage to be sent to us. Also all striking sports are required to have a blood test and full medical. We are strict on safety and this is one area we won’t compromise.

Thanks for taking the time to check us out
