NZ IFMA & WMC News

New Zealand took a team of 17 fighters to Bangkok, returning home with 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals, a record tally. Our fighter of the tournament was presented to Pumipi Ngaronoa who fought 5 fights in 6 days, all with strength and determination, Nepia Poutu being our outstanding junior. Chris Samson was selected from amongst 100 international referees to stay on and referee at the much revered SEA Games. Ben Ahipene once again demonstrated his outstanding talents and experience as coach. The competition was fierce! It may be Amateur but that pertains more to the safety gear, which without, we would never last the ten days of hard competition. Over 100 countries attended with fighters having up to and over 150 fights to their name. The top NZ pro fighters would have their work cut out for them amongst the caliber of fighters converged in Thailand last year. Kati Ahipene, Karen Gain and Sue Latta, all did a great job of supporting and managing the teams fights, training and socializing :) A big congratulations to all who took part, n amazing time and an amazing team, thank you for being so great!
