David Tua – Monte Barrett At Manukau

Sky TV promoted a great show at Manukau on 13-8-2011. Although David Tua didn't win the return with Monte Barrett he in no way disgraced himself. He got off to a slow start and was unable to make up the points. The last two rounds were extremely exciting, and when David floored Monte in the twelth round the stadium erupted. How the 40 year old Barrett got back on his feet shows what a tough character he is. Another round and I believe David Tua would have finished it off.

It need not be the end of the road for the Tuamanator. In this part of the world he is like a God and will always be a great drawcard here. I believe he will still pack Stadiums in New Zealand against fighters like Chauncy Welliver, Kali Meehan and even a return with Shane Cameron.

Monte Barrett at 40 years of age has said he wants to try his hand at professional wrestling and has good friends in the W.W.E. Possibly a bit late to change sports, but wrestlers can go for a lot longer than boxers. I have known many wrestlers still in the ring aged over 60.

If the Tuamanator does decide to end his boxing career, I believe he will be a great boxing trainer in Auckland, and be able to pass his knowledge on to aspiring young fighters. His name alone will ensure a successful career as a trainer. But somehow I don't think we have seen the last of David Tua in the ring.
