David Tua's return to the ring proved plenty. While he may not have regained his timing, range and balance of previous, he certainly showed he had put in a great effort to drop weight. He also proved to his critics that he could go 10 rounds even against a considerably taller opponent that was fighting to survive and made him chase him. When David finds his range and lands his power shots we can look forward to some devastating results.
It was to be expected that he would need to get back into his rhythm and some serious ring time to find his form again, and while many had expected an early KO, others were far more pleased to see David's ability to go 10 rounds.
From all accounts this was a good night of boxing and lets hope we get to see plenty more of David in New Zealand and that he very quickly moves back up through the heavyweight ranks and into a position to challenge, once again, for the World Heavyweight Title.
New Zealand boxing fans are very thankful to David for staging his comeback in New Zealand and allowing them to be part of it. Fight Times has always highly rated David, not only as a fighter, but also as genuine role model and ambassador for sport.
We congratulate him on his return and look forward to keeping readers informed of his progress in future issues.
Following are a selection of photos from the weigh in and Tua of Duty fight night.
