Sitnarong Interclub a Huge Success

Saturday 18 June saw Sitnarong Thai Boxing and its affiliate club, Morganti Ju Jitsu; hold their first ever combined interclub at their Waltham Road gym, Christchurch. The day featured nine Thai Boxing and seven Submission Grappling matches thorough out the afternoon and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who participated, and the large crowd who showed up to watch.

The purpose of the day was to give members of each discipline the chance to have hard sparring in a controlled and safe environment with Martial Artists from similar or like styles, and at the same time have the chance to show off a few of their skills. Supporting the Interclub and at the same time providing opposition were Kyokushin Canterbury, Crichton Cobbers Kickboxing and various free style wrestlers from around Christchurch.

All the matches went smoothly (with the exception of one bloody nose) and all those who showed up were able to get a match with someone of similar experience and weight. Everyone who entered were matched on the day and this proved to be an excellent way to run the event as due to the controlled contact allowed in all the sparring, some fighters were able to have more that one match (one person had both a Thai Boxing and Submission Grappling fight!)

It was great to see Martial Artists working together to further their own and each others skill base in a competitive, yet at the same time relaxed and fun atmosphere. Brett, Catherine and Dougal from Sitnarong and Ricardo from Morganti would like to thank all those who participated (especially from the outside clubs) in helping to make the day such a success. If anyone would like to know more about these Interclubs, including the possibility of entering next time (there may be another before the end of the year), please either phone Catherine on 021 623 814 or visit the Sitnarong web site on www.sitnarong.com and follow the links through contacts.
