On 8th April we held our second Interclub Sparring Session.
As a sport we need some place for all our differant styles to enter upcoming events so we can plan ahead, we found out with only a week to go that there was a karate tournament and a kickboxing seminar on the same day as our sparring session.
We all loose out in the end, with our numbers spread out among the differant events instead of coming together to learn and partake in our sport of martial arts and fully support each of our events.
The sparring was awesome there was represntives from Glenview Martial Arts Hamilton, Lims Tae kwon do Huntly and of course HKB.
We stuck with the format of 3 minute rounds X 5 reps with 15 minute break in between, so in the end the fighters did 15 X 3 minute rounds. With the diffreant styles there it made for good watching with the high and many types of kicks from TKD clubs to the boxing and kicking skills of the kickboxers.
With the upcoming WAKO National Champs on the 6th May this was a good place to hone our skills. There were 4 of the current WAKO semi contact national champs present as well as 2 members of the New Zealand WAKO team from 2005 World Cup. https://www.freewebs.com/huntly_kickboxing/wakoworldchamps.htm
The day was a huge success and new friendships were made and new skills past on, in the true spirit of the martial way.
The day was finished with a game of touch rugby with all of the fighters taking part.
The next Sparring Day will be on the 13th May, so bring a mouthguard, gloves, shinguards and come join in the fun, theres food for sale drinks and new friends to be made . See you there.
