The Oceania Taekwondo Union (OTU) has organised for the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) to conduct an International Referee Seminar and Refresher Course for Oceania countries and OTU members. The three-day seminar will be held in Sydney, Australia between the 17-19 January 2006.
This is a great opportunity to obtain WTF International Referee qualifications, particularly given that the OTU needs as many International Referees from the Oceania region as possible. This will assist the OTU in developing the sport of Taekwondo within the Oceania region.
New Zealand also needs more of it’s own Kiwi based WTF International Referees to further develop the Olympic Sport of Taekwondo within New Zealand according to New Zealand based O.T.U. Executive Matt Ransom, “at present we only have a small handful of WTF certified International Referees, most of whom are not actively practising right now. It’s time for a new generation of Kiwis to step up to the mark and who are dedicated to being more pro-actively involved in the sport both here in New Zealand and abroad. The more we have, the better off the sport will be in this country and in the Oceania region in order to grow WTF Olympic Taekwondo. It’s time we did our part, and we are very pleased to have already received a positive response from many senior masters around New Zealand”.

New Zealand O.T.U. Executive Member Matt Ransom is committed to ensuring that there are more Kiwi International Referees certified by the WTF and assisting with the development of the sport in New Zealand and the Oceania Taekwondo region.
