SEOUL (July 20, 2005) – A series of landmark decisions were approved by the Executive Council of the World Taekwondo Federation at its meeting in Seoul, Korea, on July 20, 2005.
As testament to its commitment to successfully implement the recommendations of the Reform Committee, the WTF approved the creation of its fifth Taekwondo union in the region of Oceania.
The Oceanian Taekwondo Union, which was officially launched last week, is headed by IOC Member Mr Phillip Walter Coles from Australia, and will be a cornerstone in the WTF's efforts to expand its operations to 202 member national associations across five continents, as in the case of the IOC.
NOTE:-
In addition to the above announcement the TUNZ is pleased to add that our President Matt Ransom who attended the 1st Inaugural Oceania Taekwondo Union Meeting in Sydney on behalf of the NZ Olympic Committee; was duly elected onto the Executive Council of the Oceania Taekwondo Union in the role of Treasurer and Financial Director. This is a huge achievement for New Zealand WTF Style Taekwondo and ensures that we have top level representation for the sport here in New Zealand.
