PrimeTime's Top Team

We will be holding PrimeTime top team on April 29th at Tamaiki community recreation centre in Glen Innes.

Top Team was previously called “Battle of the codes”. However since it is possible some styles of fighting are not able to enter a team, and others want to enter several, also some fighters want a team that is a joint (e.g Mania who has no males) then a name change was in order to fairly represent what the comp is.

Top Team is made up of three sections, Top Women’s Team, Top Males Team and over all TOP TEAM.

You may enter one section, or all if you would like to achieve the over all title.

How it works

Teams are made up of two fighters (e.g. two males in men’s) or (two females in women’s) you can compete for entry to the finals of those titles by trying to achieve a win in both fights during elimination.

If both fighters on your team win then you advance to the main event in the evening. It is possible that a team that won only one fight will advance if not enough win both.

This is where you fight the other finalists and a top team in either event is achieved.

OVER ALL TITLE

How the Top Team title is won

Two males and two females compete together with the intention of getting four wins and taking the over all title. It may happen that no team wins all fights or that more then one does.

If no team wins all fights the title will go to the team that gets closest to that result.

If more than one team wins all four fights, there will be an exciting fight off that evening.

Some Things to consider:

PrimeTime has changed the ring……we now have the “Fight for Life” ring.

This was achieved mainly to increase the safety of the fighters (to many people were getting close to the edge of the other one).

PrimeTime are in the process of talking to well recommended Ref’s. The guys did a great job last time, but Darryl, Jerry and Ben all have successful business and family lives they need to get back to.

So we will have new Ref’s.

Some of the rules will change for men.

With the new Ref’s come recommendations of rules they would like to see. It is likely to be close to what we had, but with a few issues addressed.

Time

The eliminations are likely to run from 3pm till 6pm and then finals from 7pm till 10.30 pm.

Weigh in will be the night before, and will be weigh in only, rules brief will be done the day of the event.

PRIMETIME encourages even entry level fighters to give this event a try. It is our motto that “You don’t need to be in the winners circle to stand at the starting gate”.

We would like to encourage more people to compete as a whole in this country and we believe elimination events are a way of coming up against some of the best competitors so you have a gauge as to where you fit. Test yourself and you never know what you might achieve.

Plus if you don’t make it to the finals, it will be a great event to sit back and watch.

CORNER PEOPLE

Due to the fact that some people took advantage of the corner people getting in free (that wasn’t intended to be four people) we now will only be allowing one corner person in per Club.

Fighters who fought during the day will still get free entry at night.

HELPERS

We are looking for people who are willing to help at the event with tasks like watching the changing rooms, being ring side catchers (stopping fighters falling) if you are available and would like to help, please e-mail me on [email protected].

TV

As you know PrimeTime are preparing five slots for TV3 and Sky, so the event will be televised in July and you may be interviewed before or after your fight (on camera).

Well that is the bulk of the information, I look forward to hearing your questions and receiving you entrants (via e-mail with team name, competitors names and weights, add novice to it if any team member has not competed before).

If more than one team want to represent any club, then find a way to differentiate them e.g. Mania One, Mania Two, or if you can be more inventive do so. Be warned your team name will be disallowed if it is rude or disrespectful in any way.

Thanks every-one,
