New Zealand Boxing 3 — Pro-am card at the ABA Stadium

Promoter Dinesh Shandill and the Auckland Boxing Association co-operated to stage a pro-am card at the ABA Stadium on August 5. Featured top bout was between Guillermo ("Pantera") Mosquera 62.5kg and former New Zealand amateur and professional lightweight champion Peter Warren 57.9kg plus two other pro fights and the undercard was the Auckland Provincial novice championships.

Mosquera, despite his age, is arguably the best pound for pound boxer active in Australasia outside of Kosta Tszyu and Nedal Hussien. Just 1 min 50s into the first round he scored with a left rip to the body, the sound could be heard around the arena. Warren dropped with a yell, then crawled across the ring to the ropes and pulled himself erect but luckily for him the count had reached ten.

At a post fight conference Pantera challenged any junior welterweight in the world!

In a skilfully fought four-rounder Corey Burton 69.2kg drew with evergreen Peter Dransfield 68kg that pleased the good sized crowd and in a semi-pro war Peter TePania 88.8kg outpointed Paulo Tui 90.2kg over three rounds.
