NZPWI Editor Dion McCracken has announced plans for NZPWI.co.nz to promote its first ever pro-wrestling event later this year.

Called the “NZPWI Invitational”, the August 12 event is set to see New Zealand’s top 8 professional wrestlers from across three different promotions competing in a single elimination tournament, with the winner being awarded the NZPWI Invitational Trophy.

“This is a truly unique event and one that is unprecedented in New Zealand’s storied pro-wrestling history. Never before have athletes from competing promotions been brought together for a single show – the NZPWI Invitational is proving to be just that important to the burgeoning prowrestling scene in this country.”, McCracken said.

NZPWI.co.nz is a pro-wrestling website that has been running for seven years and receives over 2000 unique New Zealand visitors per day.

In that time, the site has forged close relationships with the local and international pro-wrestling industry, with McCracken being brought on board as a consultant for Andrew McManus’ WWA The Reckoning event in May 2003 and more recently, for the WWE SmackDown event in March 2006.

New Zealand’s pro-wrestling scene, which was so popular in the 1970’s, is starting to see a resurgence, with Auckland based Impact Pro Wrestling (IPW) and Wellington based New Zealand Wide Pro Wrestling (NZWPW) running monthly shows in their respective regions in front of a throng of fans.

“We’ve signed athletes from both IPW and NZWPW and also from Brisbane based Major Impact Wrestling and truly have the very best of the best New Zealand pro-wrestlers all vying to prove who the top dog is.”, McCracken added.

New Zealand professional wrestlers “DOUBLE D” DAVEY DELUXEO, SWEET ASS, H-FLAME, JOEY KINKADE, HEARTLESS ALFRED VALENTINE, JUICE, CRUZ and JON E. KING are set to compete in the tournament, with the eventual winner needing to win three matches in one night to become the NZPWI Invitational Grand Champion!

The NZPWI Invitational will be professionally filmed for DVD and potential Television broadcast and up to 500 fans are expected to attend the live event with ringside tickets selling out within 10 minutes on the official on-sale date, April 28!

Sunday News officially signed on last week as sponsor for the NZPWI Invitational, continuing their support of “fighting arts” events in New Zealand, and confirming how important the NZPWI Invitational is to the growth of pro-wrestling in this country.

Several announcements are yet to come including details of special guests and much more!

Tickets for the NZPWI Invitational are available online at Vagabond Games in the Sky City Metro Building in Queen St., Auckland or online from https://store.nzpwi.co.nz. The official website for the event is found at https://invitational.nzpwi.co.nz.
